'Piper's Wharf': London's principal boat repair yard under threat
The site on the shore of the Greenwich Peninsula is affected by a £600m development proposal, Greenwich Wharf, by L&R.
The owner, Thames Craft Dry Docking Services, instructed BWCP to make representations to the borough, to give evidence before the Development Plan inspector and to negotiate with his freehold landlord for a suitable relocation without interruption of his business which maintains the majority of the ferry and tourist craft on the Thames and has built many of the piers and the floating Chinese restaurant in Docklands. As a result a new £3.5m boat yard starts construction in february 2008. |

This explains the background to the proposals, the amended application scheme which was submitted in August 2002 and circulated for further consultations, and the scheme which modifies the amended proposals following these consultations.
The final scheme is now expected to be put before the Greenwich Planning Board one Summer. Last updated April 2005.
